Garrett L Smith NMD CSCS CBP BS - Naturopathic Physician
Bio:
Garrett Smith NMD CSCS CBP BS, is a native and near-lifetime resident of Tucson, Arizona. He obtained his doctorate from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2005. Dr. Smith uses his knowledge and backgrounds in naturopathic medicine, physiology, nutrition, biochemistry, rehabilitation, exercise training, and sports medicine in the ways he deems most suitable for each patient. Dr. Smith considers one of his greatest talents to be an ability to assimilate the huge amount of nutrition/biochemistry information available and distill it into a format approachable by the layperson.
After experiencing and utilizing laser therapy while he was in Naturopathic medical school, Dr. Smith took a position where he was trained in aesthetic/cosmetic laser therapies, including Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and laser hair removal. Realizing that he enjoyed helping people feel better much more than he enjoyed helping them simply look better, Dr. Smith received his Low Intensity Laser Therapy (LILT) training at Meditech International in Toronto, Canada and then apprenticed with Dr. Leonard Rudnick in Tucson for one year. Dr. Rudnick was a practicing chiropractor and pioneer in the laser therapy field, accumulating over 11 years experience with LILT and treating over 8,000 patients with this exciting and successful therapy. At the 4th Annual International LILT Conference in Toronto, Canada April 21-23, 2006, Dr. Rudnick was introduced as “The doctor who has treated more patients with more different conditions than any one else in North America, possibly the world.” Dr. Smith often consults with Dr. Rudnick (ret.) on difficult cases.
Philosophy:
There is only one guiding principle in the philosophy of my practice. Many know it as the Golden Rule-”Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” While this can be expanded in many ways, in my judgment everything eventually returns to this one concept. If I were the patient, I would want to be fully informed of all of the options, be educated as to why certain treatment approaches are preferable in my situation, understand fully what is being asked of me, and provided and/or directed towards places and people where I can obtain necessary items and services for my recovery. That is what I would want, that is what I do my best to provide for my patients.
